Regulate Room Temperature With Skylight Shades

Savvy real estate agents always point out skylights in homes they show, and that makes sense because these openings make any room more inviting and open. Skylights let in more natural light, which, while visually stunning, can produce glare at certain times of day along with temperature imbalance. These issues can become more noticeable at certain times of the year, especially when we set our clocks back an hour in the fall. That's why the Covered Creations design team recommends skylight shades to our clients – these elegant window coverings allow you to regulate temperature and block out light according to your preferences.

Do Other Window Treatments Work on Skylights?

Cellular shades work best on skylights because of their smooth and easy control. Cellular shades are one of the most versatile, lightest window coverings available and will easily complement the room's overall style instead of distracting from it.

Hunter Douglas Skylight Shades

Hunter Douglas cellular shades address temperature regulation, improving energy efficiency and blocking UV rays while adding beauty to your rooms. The fabric choices should be carefully considered, as room-darkening and blackout materials are well-suited for bedrooms and media rooms, keeping out light and glare. These fabrics can also prevent home furnishings from fading over time, while some different materials will provide more insulation than others.

We can customize your Hunter Douglas window treatments for skylights. Crafted with an energy-saving honeycomb design, Duette® Cellular Shades trap air to create a barrier against hot and cold outdoor temperatures. They're offered in countless high-quality fabrics and colors, with ⅜", ¾," or 1 ¼" pleat sizes.

Ask us about the Hunter Douglas Sonnette® Roller Shades, which offer the same energy efficiency of Duette® Cellular Shades but on a sleek roller shade. And once they're installed, compare your home energy bills to past ones – you'll be amazed at the savings.

How Skylights Operate

Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades are offered with a Skylift™ skylight system. That works with a manual telescoping pole or hand crank, so you won't need to climb a ladder to raise and lower the shades. The Simplicity™ skylight system is different, operating manually through a handle installed on any slope or orientation. It can be stacked on the left or right side, bottom, or top. It works well with extra-large windows, making it easy to adjust your window treatments throughout the day as you need.

Many of our clients don't want to operate their skylights manually, and for them, we recommend the Hunter Douglas PowerView® Automation system. It motorizes the shades, letting you open and close them with a remote control, app, or voice command integrated with a smart-home system. PowerView® Automation even lets you program your window treatments to automatically raise and lower your shades so you won't have to do it yourself.
